Research Environment

FasterCures is committed to improving and continuously modernizing the medical research environment. To achieve this goal, we are working with key stakeholders to identify and implement strategies that will:

  • Enhance capacity at and resources available to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for acceleration of cures
  • Support innovative programs, practices, and policies at the National Institutes of Health (NIH)
  • Improving support for translational research across a variety of settings

A major component of our efforts to promote innovation at the NIH is focused on maximizing the potential of the NIH Intramural Research Program (IRP). In Spring 2009, we released a report from the FasterCures task force chaired by Nobel Laureate and Board Member Dr. David Baltimore which called for the IRP to adopt a new mission that is outcomes-focused, capable of responding quickly to new opportunities and challenges, and fully utilizes its world-class research hospital and other infrastructure.
